As the New Thought movement, a form of popular spiritual metaphysics, evolved from its original 19th century concern exclusively with bodily healing, one of its most important activities came to be helping people to attain prosperity. Broadly understood, prosperity includes peace, health, and plenty, as popular New Thought prosperity teacher Catherine Ponder observes. However, the attaining of money is by no means excluded from New Thought. New Thoughters do not consider prosperity inconsistent with spirituality.
