Blessings everyone, I pray everyone had a blessed Easter and I hope you did not eat too much candy.

My granddaughter was telling me about a science project in school involving growing butterflies from a cocoon which brought some things to mind. After a week or so, the cocoon begins to darken. Wings can be seen within the thinning case. When it emerges, it has changed; it no longer crawls; it has wings to spread. It is a Monarch Butterfly.

We take the butterflies to the garden to release, attempting to coax a short perch on an outstretched finger. Sometimes they linger for a brief time, but mostly they are anxious to flutter off, high and away on the breeze. Who would think that all this could come from so tiny a pod? Watching the cocoons, I thought that maybe these butterflies to be were trying to tell me something like:

  • Foraging is necessary and can be fun, even if it makes a mess.

  • Go for the high place.

  • See the world from a different perspective, hang upside down!

  • Rest is good, and so is patience.

  • It's all worth it once you get your wings!

Maybe it's time to take a walk on the wild side and look at things from a different perspective; it could be the secret to transformation.

TO THOSE OF US WHO HAVE CHILDREN IN OUR LIVES, whether they are our own, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, students, or simply borrowed, here is something to make you chuckle. Whenever your children are out of control, you can take comfort from the thought that even God's omnipotence did not extend to God's own children.

After creating heaven and earth, God created Adam and Eve.
And the first thing God said was, "Don't."
"Don't what?" Adam replied.
"Don't eat the forbidden fruit," God said.
"Forbidden fruit? We have forbidden fruit? Hey, Eve... we have forbidden fruit!"
"No way!"
"Yes, way!"
"Do NOT eat the fruit!" said God.
"Why?"
"Because I am your God and I said so!" God replied, (wondering why He hadn't stopped creation after making the elephants).
A few minutes later, God saw God's children having an apple break and was He ticked!
"Didn't I tell you not to eat the fruit?" God, as our first Parent, asked.
"Uh huh," Adam replied.
"Then why did you?" said God.
"I don't know," said Eve.
"She started it!" Adam said.
"Did not!"
"Did too!” DID NOT!!!"

Having had it with the two of them, God's punishment was that Adam and Eve should have children of their own. Thus, the pattern was set, and it has never changed!

There is reassurance in this story. If you have, persistently and lovingly, tried to give children wisdom and they haven't taken it, don't be hard on yourself. If God had trouble raising children, what makes you think it would be a piece of cake for you?

Happy Mother's Day and let's all remember our Mothers on this special day!  Many Blessings... Dan Still
