About Christ Church Unity
Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Arms
OUR VISION STATEMENT
We are here to encourage and inspire each other
to a greater awareness of God and a fuller
and richer experience of life.
Christ Church Unity was established in 1958 in the Antioch Shopping Center in Kansas City North, Missouri. The congregation grew rapidly and in 1963 a beautiful church was designed in Georgian Colonial architecture and erected on 4 acres of ground on Barry Road. Two years later an additional six acres of ground was purchased with expectations of future growth. The congregation of about 600 continues to grow today.
There are two Sunday morning services with an attendance of about 300. The Sanctuary seats 300 and a prayer chapel seats 50. There is a large Friendship Hall for church dinners and other social activities. In 1984 a new wing was added to the church building for the sole purpose of youth and adult education.
The church served many ministerial students over the years giving them the opportunity to experience something of ministry before being assigned to their own churches. In 1995 the Reverend Joseph Sloan became co-minister with the founder, Dr. George E. Hilbert. Rev. Sloan was then made senior minister upon Dr. Hilbert’s semi-retirement. Dr. Hilbert’s wife, Mrs. Betty Hilbert, established the Youth Educational Department and after 40+ years continues in that position.
In 1998 Rev. Sloan left Christ Church Unity and Rev. Richard Maraj was selected to take over. Rev. Maraj brings a vitality to this church that not only continues the long traditions of Christ Church Unity but enhances them.
"Dedicated to the healing ministry of Jesus Christ, we are spiritually growing and prospering in every way", the mission statement of 42 years. "Christ Church Unity is dedicated to the truth principles as taught and demonstrated by Jesus Christ. Transforming lives and building dreams; loving people and serving God", the current mission statement. Christ Church Unity is an especially warm and loving church espousing the principles of the Founders of Unity, Charles and Myrtle Fillmore. It is a formal and reverent church and very pastoral in its conduct. Christ Church Unity is also highly respected in the community for the many outside services it provides for other worthy organizations like scouting, Depression Support Group, Tough Love, 4-H, etc. Should you have the opportunity to visit us sometime we certainly love and welcome you.
